(A) Vinculin -/- fibroblasts were transfected with GFP or GFP-vinculin encoding constructs. 24 h post-transfection, cells were infected with S. aureus at MOI 50 for 2 h, fixed and stained for extracellular vs. intracellular bacteria. Representative fluorescence microscopy pictures show intracellular (arrowhead) as well as cell-associated, extracellular (small arrow) S. aureus.
