Tissue viability (MTS assay) and apoptosis (caspase 3/7 activity) in cultured brain slices. Left panel: Cells dissociated from two days NaHS treated ZDF slices show the highest level of viability with the lowest levels of apoptosis compared to cells in slices from Lean and ZDF or the fully viable non-cultured slices which show 100% viability. Right panel: Cells dissociated from the untreated ZDF slices show the highest caspase activity in culture, which is decreased below the level of Lean by treatment with NaHS.
