The majority (96.9%) of the established breast epithelial cells are diploid (190/196 cells) as evidenced by two chromosome 17 and two X chromosome signals. A small percentage of cells (3.1%) were tetraploid at passage 3 and exhibited four X chromosome and four chromosome 17 signals.
