AurA inhibition increases cilia number. ARPE-19 were tranfected with control vector or the Nek2 expression plasmid in the presence or absence of 0.20 μM AurA inhibitor MLN8237, cells were serum starved to stimulate cilia formation (assembling, left panels) followed by reintroduction of serum to induce cilia disassembly (disassembling, right panels). Cilia number (a) and length (b) were measured for a total of at least 300 cells. Significant differences are indicted with similar symbols, p ≤ 0.05.
