NaHS counteracts oxidative stress and damage in brain slices of ZDF rats. (A) HIF1A expression is similar in ZDF and Lean brains but NaHS increases the expression of this protein. (B) FABP expression is decreased in ZDF and is unaffected by NaHS treatment. (C) ROS production is twice higher in ZDF brains compared to Lean. NaHS an NAC (N-acetyl-L-cysteine) inhibit ROS formation in ZDF slices. ROS formation is measured by the level of Fluorescin fluorescence. (D) The oxidized forms of Peroxiredoxins is twice higher in ZDF brain and is reversed to non-oxidized form through NaHS and NAC treatment. Western blot data showing protein of interest (upper part) and β-actin (lower part) from the same samples.
