Changes of [Ca²⁺] _i level in primmorphs (aggregates of dissociated cells) from the sponge Suberites domuncula following ethylene treatment. S. domuncula cells were kept either in Ca²⁺- and Mg²⁺-free artificial seawater (CMFSW) (■) or in Ca²⁺- and Mg²⁺-containing seawater (SW) (□). The cells were treated with 1 mM ethephon 5 min after starting the experiment. The values for the ratios of the 340/380 nm images are shown. The arrow marks the time at which ethephon was added to the cells. The results are expressed as mean values ± S.E.; n = 30.
